Why did Mahadev not return to Kailash after drinking poison?

When the sea came to its head, a lot of things came out of it. But what came out first was not nectar. That was poison. And until someone took that poison, the churning could not move even a step forward. Then Mahadev came forward and took that poison in his throat. Every Shravan, lakhs of people climb a mountain from Rishikesh. The temple that is located 12 kilometers away from the forest on foot is completely related to that one sip. Let us all end this story there. The world was saved by drinking poison.

Mahadev was called Neelkanth. But after that night Mahadev never returned to his home. He left from there quietly. He kept walking and sat on a mountain. Who followed them there for 60 thousand years, this is known to the hill in front where even today the crowd does not reach. A mountain named Mandaraachal was erected in the middle of the sea. The rope wrapped around him wasn’t actually a rope at all. He was King of Snakes Vasuki. The gods were standing towards the tail. Both the demons caught hold of the mouth and started pulling it. From here to there, from here to there, and the entire ocean started rotating with that mountain. The arms on both sides were tired but the greed was fresh. Both of them knew that there was nectar in the belly of that ocean. And the meaning of nectar was that after drinking it one would never have to lose to anyone again. Then the sea returned something. At first, there was only the smell. The air became heavy. It became difficult to breathe. Then the water split in the middle and he came up. The black thick slowed and the sea boiled beneath him. Halahal did not kill anyone he touched. used to erase it. He rose up and began to spread. Above the sea, then towards the sky, then in all four directions, the creatures that were coming under that wind were stopping right there. All three worlds became inert. The rope was released from both sides simultaneously. The gods ran away, the demons ran away. Those who were standing ready to kill each other a moment ago, were now running shoulder to shoulder in the same direction. And they all ran and fell in front of Mahadev. Hands folded, head bowed, only two words coming out of the mouth. Save it. King of snakes Vasuki was left alone in the sea. Which were made into ropes and were tied to that mountain. There was no way for them to move from there. Mahadev got up and walked through the running crowd in the same direction from which everyone was running. He picked up the poison in his palms as if someone were catching something falling on the way and put it to his mouth. While picking it up, some drops spilled from his palms and fell on the ground. We will get the account of those drops much later in this story. And at that very moment Mother Parvati reached there running. He extended his hand and placed it on Mahadev’s throat with full force. Because she knew that the entire universe for which this sip was being taken was currently residing within Mahadev. If the sip goes down, all those who are being saved will go with it. And that poison stayed there. Exactly at the same place where Mother Parvati’s palm was. For how long did that hand remain there? No one counted this. He stayed there until the sip cooled down. Then he removed his hand. The skin color where the hand was placed had changed. The throat had turned blue. That night a name was added to this world which continues till today. Neelkanth. If you want to listen to this story completely then subscribe to our channel and write Om Namah Shivay once below because there is an address in the story ahead and that address is still present on the map of Uttarakhand. The churning began again and this time the ocean returned treasures one after the other. Kamadhenu appeared. That cow who could give anything on demand. Airavata appeared. A white elephant turned out to be Kalpavriksha. Chandraman came out. Then Goddess Lakshmi appeared from the sea and went and stood near Lord Vishnu. At last Lord Dhanvantari appeared with a pot in his hand. And in that pot was the thing for which all this churning was done. Nectar. As soon as they saw him, the demons stopped thinking. He went ahead and snatched the pot and ran away from there and then the same thing happened which often happens. The pot started moving here and there in his own hands. One said I will drink first, the other said I will drink first and they started fighting among themselves. The gods were standing at a distance watching all this and now they had nothing left in their hands. Then Lord Vishnu took a form. Mohini, the form of a woman. She walked into the midst of those demons and the fight stopped automatically. Everyone’s attention shifted from the urn to him. He said very casually that this fight will never end like this. The Kalash should be given to them. He himself will distribute it equally to everyone. The demons placed the pot in his hand. He made everyone sit in two rows. On one side there were demons and on the other side there were gods and it was said that they would meet in turn. Then she started walking between those two lines. The pot would tilt towards the side where the deity was sitting and the nectar would fall. The hand went towards the side where the demons were sitting but the pot remained straight every time. The demons watched and smiled. He was waiting for his turn. Only one caught it. Rahu he got up quietly. He changed his form and sat in the row of gods. Right between the Sun and the Moon. Mohini reached there. The pot tilted and the nectar started flowing down his throat. At that very moment the Sun and the Moon recognized him. And he pointed. Lord Vishnu fired his Chakra at that very moment. The head got separated from the body. But by then the nectar had reached the throat. So that head is alive to this day and follows the sun and the moon to this day. The day when he catches them is called eclipse. By the time the pot was empty, the demons had understood what had happened to them. But by then the gods had become immortal. The outcome of the war that followed was predetermined. And then everyone returned to their homes. The gods took their nectar and along with Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu, Airavata, Kalpavriksha, Kamadhenu, all grew up. There was only one person who did not return home that entire night. The poison did not kill Mahadev but it was not finished either. It had settled in my throat and was burning. And with that jealousy, it was not possible to sit in any gathering, attend any celebration, or hear anyone praise me. On the night when the entire universe was saved, Mahadev quietly left from there and he did not go to Kailash. Kailash was his home. Home is a place where people see you, where someone asks you if you’re okay. He didn’t want any of this at that time. They just wanted to be chill. The burning sensation was such that it would not go away even after pouring water. It does not go away even if ice is kept. She was sitting exactly at the place from where the sound came. That means every breath was passing over him. Even if he spoke, he would remain silent. So he kept walking. The plains were left behind, the settlements were left behind. The path kept rising. And then he stopped. Not at a height. There where the mountains were still just beginning. Where Mother Ganga emerges from the mountains and descends into the plains and from where, if you look up, the entire Himalayas are still there. He didn’t want height. He needed solitude and these two are not the same thing. Today that place falls in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. 12 km from Rishikesh. There are three hills standing together at the foot. Brahmakuta, Vishnukuta and Manikuta. Koot means peak and Manikoot means the peak which is itself a gem. Right below them, two small rivers meet each other. One is called Madhumati. The second one’s name is Pankaja. Madhumati means the one which has honey and Pankaja means the lotus which has emerged from the mud. The person in whose throat the root of the entire universe was burning at that time, while walking, came and sat at the very place where honey and lotus meet each other. There was a tree there. The tradition there calls it Panchpani. He sat under the same tree and closed his eyes. Then he did not get up. 60 thousand years. What he held in his throat that night was not an injury of one night. It was going to take ages for it to cool down. Today people climb the same mountain carrying milk. Along with honey, coconut, flowers, Belpatra and water which many people bring from miles away. One more thing goes up in all of this. Which we never pay attention to. Datura. That night some drops spilled and fell on the ground. It is believed that from those drops came to this earth everything that still remains within it. Scorpions, snakes and plants whose leaves and flowers contain poison. Datura is one of them. No one applies it. It grows on its own. On the garbage heaps, on the broken roadside, on the barren land where nothing else refuses to grow. No one plants it in their courtyard and its flowers are not used in any wedding. Yet every year millions of people pluck flowers from the same plant. Took him 12 km. They climb up and place it in front of Mahadev who had held the same root in his throat. For those things that are truly returned from every door, at least one door in this world should remain open. That is why honey and milk are offered in one hand and Datura in the other hand. Sweetness and poison in the same plate. Because both are kept together in that throat also.

Meanwhile, Mother Parvati was waiting in Kailash. Days passed and then years passed and they received no news. So she set out on her own and searched until she found him. She reached that tree. Mahadev was sitting there. Eyes closed, breathing slow and that peace on the face which comes with great difficulty after years of irritation. But he did not wake up Mahadev. She quietly moved away from there. She climbed the hill in front and sat there. For the same amount of time. 60 thousand years on that side, 60 thousand years on this side, a Samadhi on one side, a wait on the other side, he was definitely sitting alone but that mountain did not remain alone, where someone sat silently for such a long time, people started coming there on their own, first one, then two and then gradually a whole tradition, there is a cave on the same mountain, Jhilmil Cave, in it there is darkness somewhere and light somewhere and both keep meeting each other, the name came from there. They say a yogi came there. He did not come as a disciple. He came with questions. How is the body controlled and how is the mind controlled? He could not find the answer in words. He just sat there. In the same silence that was already spread on that mountain. It is said that the walls of that cave are still black because of the same fire that kept burning there for years. Even today, if you go to that cave, you will find someone or the other sitting there. He does not tell his name and no one even asks. A little further ahead there is another cave which people call Ganesh Cave because a stone there automatically shaped itself into that form. Mahadev sat quietly and gradually a whole neighbourhood settled around him. Today, on reaching the place where the temple stands, the first thing that catches one’s attention is its door because that door does not seem to be of these mountains. The temples of Garhwal are simple and small, made of stone. And here suddenly stands a high-storeyed, colourful gate that looks like a South Indian temple and the carvings on that gate are even more astonishing. It’s the same night on it. The ocean rope was pulled by the gods on one side and the demons on the other. The entrance of most temples tells you who is seated inside. This door tells you why those who are seated inside are sitting there. There is a natural source in the temple premises which the people there call Amritkund. People take bath there before darshan. Wash hands and face and then go inside. The water that flows at the feet of the same person in whose throat that sip of poison is stuck, is named Amrit. And before going inside, there is a very old Peepal tree standing outside on which thousands of threads are tied. The custom is that you tie a thread there and say your wish, and the rule is that on the day of the wish’s fulfillment, you have to come back there and untie the thread with your own hands. That means you cannot just ask for something from that temple and leave. You have to leave with a promise to return. The way to there starts from Ram Jhula. 12 km 4 to 5 hours and the entire route is through the forest. This is not a decorated path. It passes through Rajaji’s forest where elephants come and go and where leopards live. There is a rule there which did not come from any religious book. After an incident on that same route, it was decided that you would not be allowed to climb that path after 4:00 pm because during the day that path is yours and after dark it belongs to those who have been there before you. Patna Falls is about halfway along the way. Where people take off their shoes, put their feet in and sit for a while. There is a small cave ahead of it. Mauni Baba’s Cave It is said that there lived a saint who did not speak a word for years. While passing by that cave, people automatically start speaking softly. There is no board installed there. No one refused anyone. just happens on its own. And no big name is found in this entire pilgrimage place. There is no inscription to indicate who laid the first stone. Where millions of people climb every year, the question still remains open: who built all this? There are just two or four small shops where tea and water are available and some handwritten boards hung on the trees. So that no one gets lost where the path divides. In this whole story, everyone is waiting for someone and you have also completed this 12-kilometer climb with us. Subscribe here, write Om Namah Shivay below and now wait because that eye is about to open. And then one day that wait ended. The burning sensation did not go away. The burning sensation is still there but it has increased so much that one can open one’s eyes with it. And the eyes opened. 60 After a thousand years, at first glance, he saw what was there when he sat down. The same trees, the same two rivers merging below. The same three hills and then he saw something that was not there when he sat down. Someone was sitting on the hill in front. Mother Parvati did not move from there. No one told him to stay seated. No one had told her when this wait would end or if it would end at all, and she still sat there. That night the entire universe came running to Mahadev. They had come because there was a need and as soon as the nectar was distributed, they all returned to their homes. After 60 thousand years, Mother Parvati was still sitting there on the hill in front. In his story of that mountain, that day Mother Parvati asked him only one thing that he should leave some mark of his at this place and Mahadev established a Shivalinga there, not by any king, not by any sculptor, with his own hands, that Shivalinga is not of any other shape. It is throat shaped. And even today, people who go there say that light blue marks are still visible on that stone. Those who climb 12 kilometers to reach there are actually standing in front of a throat. In the same throat in which that sip is still stuck. There is a turn on the road leading to the same temple. On one side was Neelkanth and on the other side, a little above, was the other hill where Mother Parvati was sitting. There is a temple there also. People coming from outside call it the temple of Goddess Parvati. Her people there call her Bhuvaneshwari. And almost everyone goes straight through that turn. There is no such rule written on the door of the temple. But the story of that mountain is incomplete without that other mountain. But most people who climb there don’t even know there’s anything there. The one who waited the longest has the least crowd at his door today. And now return to that Peepal tree on which people tie a thread and promise to return. The first thread of that mountain was not tied to any tree. It was a wait that was fulfilled by sitting on the peak in front and nothing was asked for in return. Perhaps that is why that place still attracts people. There was no war won. No one’s pride was broken there. There was just a grave and a wait. And neither of them left their place. Now a ropeway is being built on that mountain. From Rishikesh straight up through the jungle. When his first plan was made on paper, his last stop was not Neelkanth. He was even ahead of that. On the same other hill. After such a long wait, for the first time someone had drawn a path to that door. One thing is still said on that mountain that whoever could not reach Kedarnath must visit Neelkanth once. And we have told the story of Kedarnath separately. That temple too had spent centuries buried under the snow and when the snow was removed, it was found standing there. Please keep subscribing. That story will reach you on its own and bring this story to those who know how to wait for someone. He will understand this and while leaving, say Om Namah Shivay once.
