The story begins in the eternity when the universe did not exist. This was the time when the creation of the universe had not even begun and the waters of the great deluge were spread everywhere. Neither was this earth, nor the sky, nor the sun, nor the stars. There was only dense darkness all around and there was just an endless sea. In this cosmic water in the form of Mahanadi, on the bed of Sheshnag, Shri Jagat Palanhaar Narayan i.e. Lord Vishnu was absorbed in deep yogic sleep. This Yoga Nidra was not an ordinary sleep. This was Mother Mahamaya, a great power of Mother Bhagwati herself. Who had wrapped Lord Vishnu in his illusion. Yoga nitre mahadre yoga maye Maheshwari. Yoga Siddhi Kari Shuddha Durga Devi Listen. Namo Narayana Shakaram Bhuja Jaga Shayanam Padmanabham Suresham Vishvadharam Gagan Sadrisham Megh Varnam Shubha Narayana Hari Narayana Ananta Koti Brahmanda Naya Hari Narayana On a huge golden lotus that emerged from the navel of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, the creator of the universe, Chaturananda Brahma Ji was seated, just waiting for the right time to lay the first foundation of life in this empty and quiet universe. And could formulate a grand plan to create a new universe from nothing. On one hand, Lord Brahma was preparing to create a new universe. On the other hand, in the silence of that ocean, a huge disaster was taking shape. Shri Hari Vishnu was absorbed in deep yogic sleep and in that state the earwax accumulated in his ears started taking a terrible and dark form. It was not just any dirt but it was the impurity that existed before the creation of the universe. That was the darkness which was very necessary to come out from within Lord Narayana. Because it was destined that this cosmic disorder would emerge before the creation of a pure and new universe and from that very impurity that emerged from Narayana’s body, two great destructive forces were born. This incident was not an ordinary incident. This was the appearance of the first two demons of sin and ignorance in this universe. The names of these two demons who suddenly created an earthquake in the calm waters of the deluge were Madhu and Kaitab. They were not born from the womb of any mother but the same impurity that came out from the body of Lord Vishnu took the form of two most dangerous qualities of cosmic energy. Madhu, born from pure Tamaguna, was the living embodiment of darkness, ignorance and destruction. Whereas Kaitab originated from Rajoguna. In whose veins flowed never-ending aggression and a tremendous ego to hold the entire universe in his fist. The sole purpose of these two appearing at that moment was to stop the creation of the universe and create a dance of destruction. Devi Bhagavata Purana tells that after birth, these two brothers performed severe penance in the sea for thousands of years. After listening to the voice from the sky, he chanted the Vagbhav Beej Mantra Ae of Mother Bhagwati. Pleased with his intense penance, Goddess Bhagwati granted him the boon of death at will. That means his end was not possible unless he himself wanted it. Madhu and Kaitab became filled with pride after receiving the boon of death at will. Madhu Katab started feeling that there was no one more powerful than him in this entire universe. While wandering in the waters of the deluge, suddenly his eyes fell on Lord Brahma, seated on a divine lotus flower, holding all the four Vedas in his hands. The Vedas were not just books but were the ultimate knowledge of creation, the supreme intelligence without which the creation of the universe was impossible. Both of them thought that if they wanted to establish their empire over this new creation, then first they would have to destroy the creator of this universe and establish their dominance over all the knowledge of the universe i.e. the Vedas. Blinded by the pride of their immense power, both of them, without thinking, attacked Lord Brahma fiercely and snatched the Vedas from him. Despite not wanting to, Brahmadev was left helpless. Now the biggest crisis was not how the universe would be created or that the Vedas had been stolen. The biggest irony was that if the supreme knowledge of the Vedas fell into the hands of these demons, they would surely bring the world to the brink of extinction even before they were born. Madhu and Kaitab were so powerful and huge that Lord Brahma understood that he could not face them on his own strength. At that very moment, when his eyes fell on Shri Hari, but Narayan was in deep sleep under the influence of Mother Yoga Nidra. Then, according to the first chapter of Durga Saptashati of Markandeya Purana, Lord Brahma recited the most powerful praise of the Goddess which is called Brahma Stuti or Ratrisukta. You are the destroyer of demons, O Goddess, you are the protector of this world. You are sleep itself. You are the hunger. Please come out of the eyes, ears and brain of Narayana so that he can awaken and destroy these evil demons. Pleased with this praise of Lord Brahma, Mother Yoga Nidra came out of the body of Lord Vishnu. And when Lord Brahma narrated the entire story to him and told him how the demons had stolen the Vedas, the protector Narayana immediately became furious. Madhu Katab, return it to us immediately, fight with us first. And began a great war which is considered to be one of the longest lasting wars in the history of creation. This fierce war continued without stopping for 5000 years. Ra Sam Seem ka Shankaraana Rem ka Shankaraana Narayana understood that where there is the boon of infinite strength and immortality, one has to attack not with weapons but with Maya and intelligence. But how is it? Both of them were blessed with the boon of death at will from Goddess Mahamaya herself. According to Devi Bhagavata Purana Skandha 1 Chapter 9, when no solution was found to this problem, Shri Hari Vishnu remembered Mother Mahamaya, the original power of the universe. Katyayani Mahamay Khadak Baan Dhanurdhare Khadak Dharani Chandi Shri Durga Devi Namostute Shankh Chakra Gada Pani Sharang Jayet Bave Peetam Dhare Dhanya Durga Devi Namostute Mother Adishakti herself appeared on the call of Narayan. She knew that these two demons, full of Rajoguna and Tamoguna with immense powers, had a big defect and that was ego. That means I am the best. There is no one greater than me. His only desire was to become worshipable and that he alone should have dominion over this entire universe. Taking advantage of their arrogance, the Goddess smiled and covered the minds of both the demons with the veil of Mohini Maya. As soon as they came under the influence of Maya, the conscience of the demons was destroyed. Hail Mother Mahamaya. Madhu Kaitabh, the mother of the world, Adi Shakti, both of you are invincible and as a result of my blessing you are also immortal, then why this war, you are immortal mother but Narayan has kept us crying for the last 5000 years. I haven’t been allowed to breathe for a moment for the entire 5000 years. O Goddess, we do not need only strength. We are now not only powerful and immortal but also masters of the four Vedas. We can create a new world ourselves. Our position is higher than even Brahma and Narayana. Surely Narayan has fought with us for so long with full courage that we are happy. Narayan undoubtedly deserves praise. But not better than us. Undoubtedly Madhu and Katab, there is no doubt in your words. Your position is very high. But the one who holds a higher position always gives blessings and boons to those younger than him. So don’t you both think that Narayan is younger than you and hence you should give him some boon? You must ask for Narayan. Whatever boon you want, ask for it today. We will bless you. You both will not be able to give me what I ask for. It is impossible that there is nothing in this universe of which we are not the master. Ask for Narayan. We promise. Whatever you ask for, you will receive it. Sure. Both of you are unique heroes and far more powerful than me. If you are really pleased with my bravery and want to give me a boon, then just give me this boon that the death of both of you should be ensured at my hands. Now came that perfect moment. Madhu and Kaitab were stunned after hearing these words. His own ego had become a death trap for him. The boon of voluntary death, which was his biggest strength, had now been taken away from him. Because even though unknowingly both of them had expressed their desire to die at the hands of Narayan. But he was a demon and was full of intelligence and cunningness like Shakuni. Therefore, the same cunning mind found another trick at the last moment. Both of them knew that there was only the infinite water of the deluge spread all around for infinite yojanas. There is not even a needle tip of dry land anywhere. Okay Narayan. We will definitely keep our promise. If you have asked for a boon, we will give it. But you will be able to kill us. Provided only at that place where not even a drop of water is left. Both of them knew that the Vedas, with the help of which the universe is to be created, are with us and we will never return the Vedas so easily. So when the Vedas are not in the hands of the creator then the creation of the universe will not take place. And the non-creation of the universe means that the earth will never be created. Both of them felt that it was impossible to find such a dry place in this endless flood and they would be able to cheat death again. But the fools were ignorant. He had forgotten that the creator of the universe, Shri Hari Narayan himself, was present before him. And along with them is Mother Adi Shakti herself, beyond time, whose will alone gives rise to their existence. Whose law no one can break. Not only any demon but even any god does not have this much power. Well, let’s come to the story. Lord Vishnu increased his size infinitely in a moment. Come, respect the boon you have given me. Place your head on these thighs of mine. Forced by their own trap and boon, both the mighty demons had to place their heads on the dry thighs of Lord Narayana. And at that very moment a terrible sound echoed, tearing the universe. The extremely radiant and destructive Sudarshan Chakra appeared from the hands of Lord Vishnu. Holding the conch, chakra and mace, in one stroke the heads of both those invincible demons were separated from their bodies. His huge body fell into the same ocean. According to Vishnu Purana Chapter 1 Verse 7, so much fat came out from the mountain-like bodies of Madhu and Kaitapa, which is also called Meda in Sanskrit, that this new earth was formed by the accumulation of that fat. For this reason, our earth made of fat was given a sacred name, Medni. And thus ego and arrogance destroyed two powerful demons who were not afraid even of death. After that the Vedas were again safely handed over to Lord Brahma. And see the law of the law. After this, no demon ever dared to steal the Vedas.
