Termites built their homes around him and started to eat him only his bones were left with a lot of flesh eaten by the termites bhagwan Shiva was pleased by shilada’s devotion granted him a boon with hands folded and a heart full of hope shilada replied lord bless me with a child shiva smiled and said you shall have your wish and just like that he vanished the very next day as shilada plowed his field a miraculous sight awaited him a glowing child radiant like the morning sun appeared before him a heavenly voice echoes from the sky shilada take this child and raise him well overwhelmed with joy shilada brought the child home and named him nandi from the very beginning nandi was no ordinary child his devotion to lord shiva shone brighter than the stars one day two great sages mitra and veruna visited shilada’s home nandi’s hospitality left them pleased but when they blessed him a shadow of sorrow passed over their faces shilada sensing something amiss approached the sages his heart sank as they revealed the truth that nandi does not have long to live but nandi’s response left everyone stunned with unwavering faith he said father do not fear bhagwan shiva can rewrite even fate itself determined to change his destiny nandi began a powerful penance by the river buvana his devotion was so profound that it drew lord shiva himself to the scene as nandi opened his eyes he beheld the lord of kyash sitting before him overcome with emotion nandi expressed his only wish lord let me stay by your side forever from this day forth you shall take the form of a bull my eternal companion my doorkeeper and the leader of my ganas together we shall reside in kyash and thus nandi became the trusted vehicle companion and guardian of bhagwan Shiva during the samudra manthan or the ocean churning the serpent king vasuki was used as a rope to churn the ocean with mount meu at center as the churning continued whole sea contaminated due to a deadly poison catalyzed by cobra vasuki’s venom the universe was now in imminent danger bhagwan Shiva came forward as only he could salvage the grave situation Shiva scooped up the poison into his hand and drank it fearing that her husband would die goddess parvathi constricted his neck and the descent of the poison was in turn stopped at his throat the poison started spilling out of his mouth nandi with one furious jump leapt into the ocean and drank the spilled drops of poison from bhagwan shiva’s mouth without caring for his own life nandi saved the universe from the spilled poison the devas and asuras watching were shocked and wondered aloud what would happen to nandi bhagwan Shiva calmed them and said do not fear my devotees nandi is more than just my companion he shares my strength my protection and my divinity through his devotion nandi proved that love and faith could conquer even the most deadly of challenges from that day onward nandi became a symbol of unwavering devotion and loyalty standing as a reminder that true faith can transcend even the boundaries of fate after winning a war with his half brother kubera and seizing the celestial pushpak viman ravana the ten headed demon king of lanka embarked on a triumphant journey back to his golden city en route he was mesmerized by the majestic sight of mount kyash the divine abode of bhagwan Shiva and goddess Parvati as ravana attempted to soar over mount kyash he found something was preventing his pushpak viman to soar over mount kyash confused and annoyed by this obstruction the pushpak viman falls freely at the base of mount kyash arrogant ravana decided to investigate the cause of this obstruction upon reaching the base of the mountain ravana encountered nandi the sacred bull and loyal gatekeeper of kyash when ravana demanded an explanation for his inability to pass nandi informed him that lord Shiva and goddess Parvati were engaged in meditation atop the mountain and no one was permitted to disturb them true to his conceited nature ravana scoffed at nandi’s word he derisively referred to nandi as a monkey face belittling shiva’s devoted attendant unwilling to heed nandi’s authority ravana attempted to force his way onto mount kyash incensed by ravana’s insolence and derogatory remark nandi pronounced a curse upon him you have mocked me by calling me a monkey one day monkeys will be the cause of your destruction this curse would later manifest during the events of the ramayana when lord rama aided by the vanara sena the monkey army led by hanuman and sugriva would defeat ravana bringing an end to his reign of terror undeterred by nandi’s curse ravana’s arrogance knew no bounds ravana determined to showcase his might he resolved to uproot mount kyash itself exerting his immense strength ravana began to lift the sacred mountain causing it to tremble violently startled by the sudden upheaval residents of kyash started running in fear goddess Parvati told bhagwan Shiva to stop ravana however the omniscient Shiva serene and composed decided to teach ravana a lesson in humility bhagwan Shiva with his visvaroop grew larger and with a mere press of his toe bhagwan Shiva pinned mount kailash firmly in place trapping ravana beneath its colossal weight the once mighty king of lanka now helpless and in excruciating pain cried out in agony realizing the folly of his action and knowing the greatness of bhagwan Shiva ravana undertook severe penance to appease lord Shiva over a thousand years he sacrificed his own heads one by one all while composing and singing hymns of praise including the legendary Shiva tandava stotram moved by ravana’s unwavering devotion and sincere repentance bhagwan Shiva forgave him and granted him boons of immense power and also granted him chandrahasa the indestructible sword of bhagwan Shiva however nandi’s curse remained irrevocable ensuring that ravana’s arrogance would ultimately lead to his demise this timeless tale serves as a profound reminder of the negative consequences that arise from excessive pride or arrogance while ravana’s pride brought about his downfall it was his genuine repentance and devotion that earned shiva’s forgiveness imparting the sacred knowledge of the vedas to goddess Parvati the divine couple spent years immersed in this learning however during this prolonged session Parvati temporarily lost her focus and this slight lapse enraged bhagwan Shiva in a moment of anger bhagwan Shiva cursed Parvati declaring that she would be born as a fisher woman on earth as the curse took effect Parvati vanished from kyash bhagwan Shiva regretted his actions deeply for the curse given to Parvati he became consumed with sorrow longing for his beloved wife on earth the infant Parvati materialized beneath a tree she was discovered by the leader of a fishing community who lovingly adopted her and raised her as his own daughter he named her Parvati and as she grew up she became a bold and free spirited young woman Parvati became an expert at rowing and fishing earning the admiration of her people despite her humble life she carried the divine essence of the goddess she truly was meanwhile back in kyash bhagwan shiva’s longing for Parvati began to take a toll on him he became increasingly withdrawn and sorrowful nandi ever the faithful devotee could not bear to see his master in despair mustering his courage nandi asked Shiva why he didn’t simply call Parvati back Shiva explained that as a human Parvati had to fulfill her destiny and her future husband would inevitably be a fisherman even he the great mahadev could not alter the course of fate determined to reunite Shiva and Parvati nandi came up with a clever plan he transformed into a massive whale and began terrorizing the waters near parvati’s village making it impossible for the fishermen to fish or venture out to sea the fishermen grew increasingly desperate as their livelihoods were threatened parvati’s father the leader of the community declared that whoever could capture the whale would win parvati’s hand in marriage when Shiva learned of the situation he transformed into a dashing fisherman physically strong and confident approaching the village chief he offered to capture the whale in exchange for marrying Parvati the chief eagerly accepted hoping this mysterious and powerful fisherman could succeed where others had failed bhagwan Shiva as fisherman entered the sea and captured the whale the whale recognizing its master surrendered immediately to Shiva and become divine vehicle to bhagwan Shiva the villagers were astonished at the fisherman’s success and true to his word the village chief arranged for Shiva to marry Parvati and so bhagwan Shiva and goddess Parvati were reunited thanks to nandi’s clever plan
