Fiancé Blamed The Dog For Girlfriend’s Horrific Death, Then Police Found Something Else…

On October 8th, 2023, police in Texas responded to a 911 call about a woman who had been violently attacked by the family’s dog, Soldier. When officers arrived, Sheila Cuveas was lying motionless at the foot of the bed. Unable to respond as they attempted to help her, her face was badly swollen. Several ribs were fractured and deep wounds covered part of her body, as the prosecution would describe.

 I would say head to toe, beaten, bruised, swollen face, cauliflower ear, puncture wounds. She had 15 broken ribs. Her fianceé, Caleb Mickens, appeared completely shattered. He told officers that the boxer had suddenly turned on the woman that he loved, and he couldn’t understand why. The destroyed apartment, broken furniture, and the dog still inside the room appeared to support his story.

 So, Soldier was taken by animal control and 11 days later, he was euthanized, but then Sheila’s toxicology results came back. She had been heavily sedated when her injuries didn’t look like the work of a dog. Investigators were no longer asking why Soldier had attacked her. They were asking whether the dog had been used to hide what really happened inside that apartment.

The first problem with Caleb’s story was Sheila’s injuries. The medical report showed that she had suffered devastating trauma to multiple parts of her body, but one injury in particular immediately raised questions. Sheila had suffered what is known as cauliflower ear, a condition usually associated with repeated heavy blows to the side of the head.

 And that was not the only thing investigators had to consider. Toxicology results also showed that Sheila had an extremely high concentration of sedative medication in her system. So at some point Sheila had been heavily sedated. But when was she already sedated when the attack began or had the medication been administered afterward? Then there was the timing of the 911 call.

 It’s not clear whether Caleb discovered Sheila after the attack was over or whether he had been inside the apartment while it was happening, but one thing was certain. By the time Caleb called for help, the attack was over. Sheila was unresponsive, and Caleb was the one telling investigators what had happened.

 While detectives were trying to put those pieces together, Caleb was publicly mourning the loss of both his fianceé and his dog. According to Caleb, Soldier had been his best friend. On Instagram, Caleb publicly mourned their deaths, writing on his bio, “Goodbye, my sweet family.” And when Sheila’s family created a GoFundMe to help cover her funeral expenses, Caleb donated $200 and left a short message expressing his love for Sheila.

To the public, Caleb looked like a man grieving two unbearable losses, his fiance and the dog he considered his best friend. But detectives were about to discover that his account depended on Sheila being unable to tell them what had really happened.

Now to understand why Sheila trusted Caleb and how he was able to control the story after her death, you first have to understand the image that he spent years building. By then, Caleb had built an online identity designed to make people trust him. Under the name Cash Cardier, he presented himself to nearly 100,000 followers as a wealthy cryptocurrency expert who could teach them how to achieve the same success.

 And at the height of his online activity, Caleb was reportedly making around $20,000 a week. The business model was relatively simple. He earned a direct commission for every new person he recruited into the organization. Years later, regulators would accuse the platform of operating through pyramidstyle structures and impose massive financial penalties.

 But at the time, Caleb appeared to be sitting at the top of the hierarchy, and he knew how to sell the dream. In his videos, he talked about overcoming hardship, building wealth, and creating a better life from nothing. Here’s one of his promotional videos. Looking at the number of people in the stadium and the way they are cheering him on, it’s clear that Caleb had managed to build a significant following.

 He was confident, convincing, and his social media showed him living the kind of lifestyle many people dream about but could never afford. There were pictures of him traveling in private jets and videos of him enjoying himself in different places, including this one of him in Puerto Rico. His image worked. People joined his programs, paid for his advice, and trusted him with money.

 Some could barely afford to lose. One of those people was Sheila. But here’s the thing. Sheila was not the person most people would imagine falling for an online financial influencer. She had graduated from college with honors, built a stable career, and accumulated substantial personal savings. The people who knew her described her as an amazing person whose smile and kind heart could light up every single room she walked into.

 She also had a clear vision for her future and a loving family supporting her. It’s unclear exactly how Sheila and Caleb first met, but she was impressed by him. He was hardworking, charming, and at least from the outside appeared to have a clear plan for his future. She believed that he knew what he was doing. So when Caleb advised her to invest in his ventures, she saw no obvious reason to question him.

 She trusted him and she transformed her assets. But within a surprisingly short period of time, those savings disappeared into a complicated network of financial arrangements that offered very little transparency. And according to the people who knew Sheila, that was when something began to change. As Sheila’s money disappeared and concerns about Caleb’s behavior grew, a warning arrived from someone who already knew exactly what life with him could become.

 The message came from his exwife, Carrie, who was living thousands of miles away from Texas in Scotland. Years earlier, Carrie had apparently believed many of the same things that Sheila did. She had seen Caleb as a charming man with big plans, a successful entrepreneur, and the man who seemed to know exactly where his life was going.

 Carrie had believed in that version of Caleb so much that she left her home in Europe and moved across the Atlantic to build a life with him. But eventually that life fell apart. And now she felt Sheila needed to know why. So Carrie began describing her own relationship with Caleb and the things she said she had experienced while she was with him.

 She wrote, “Hey Sheila, word got to me about you and Cash, and I just wanted you to know that anything you have heard about him is true. He is ab a master manipulator, a narcissist. He will love bomb you. He will brainwash you, lie to you, and slowly break you down until you are no longer yourself. He will physically abuse you.

 And I pray that none of that happens and you leave before he gets the chance.” But here’s the thing. Car’s warning was not describing some distant possibility. According to many people close to Sheila, several parts of that were already happening, but Sheila apparently did not see them that way. The constant monitoring was not control.

 Caleb was simply worried about her. The restrictions were not isolation. He was protecting their relationship. And the person warning her was not trying to save her. She was simply a jealous ex-wife who wanted to destroy her relationship. At least that was the explanation Caleb gave her. And for the moment, Sheila believed him.

 But Carrie was not finished. When Sheila did not respond to her warning, Carrie decided to take the information somewhere Caleb could no longer dismiss it so easily. She went public. Carrie began publishing everything she had collected on her social media pages. And these were not vague accusations or emotional rants.

She shared photos of injuries, screenshots containing alleged threats, and detailed accounts of the control and intimidation she had said that she experienced. Once Carrie posted her allegations publicly, she discovered she was not the only woman telling the same story. Within days, 12 others came forward.

 The women lived in different places and had known Caleb at different times. Yet their accounts followed the same progression. Financial control, isolation, intimidation, and eventually violence. But one of these women had done something that the others had not. She managed to get out. And after she left, authorities became involved. That woman was Darianne.

The judge ultimately chose probation instead of prison and Caleb was ordered to complete anger management classes. Then he walked out of the courtroom free.

 For a man who had just faced serious accusations, that outcome may have felt like a victory. And for a while, Caleb appeared to believe that he was untouchable. But now, women from his past were speaking publicly. One after another, they were sharing their stories online. And suddenly, the man who had once controlled the narrative was about to lose everything.

 He was on an ankle monitor for a probation case. So, he was unable to even rent an apartment. As Caleb lost his followers, his income, and control over the public narrative, Sheila also began pulling away from him. For a brief moment, it appeared she might finally escape. But Caleb was not ready to let her go. In his mind, Sheila had abandoned him at the exact moment when he needed her most.

 And that was the story he began telling publicly. According to Caleb, he was the victim and Sheila was the person who had turned her back on him. Soon, people online began accusing her of being greedy and disloyal. Some said that she had abandoned Caleb when he needed her the most. And the more people turned against Sheila, the more isolated she became.

Then, just when it seemed like Caleb had pushed her away for good, something changed. The public attacks stopped. The accusations were replaced with private messages, apologies, and promises. Now the story returns to the bedroom. But with everything investigators had learned about Caleb, the scene no longer looked like the aftermath of a dog attack. It looked like a story that had been constructed to protect him. But investigators still had to prove what happened inside of that apartment. So experts began reconstructing the events of that night.

 And the evidence did not suggest a brief argument or sudden outburst. Instead, the condition of Sheila’s body raised an even more disturbing possibility. She appeared to have suffered prolonged trauma while already heavily sedated. And when it was over, investigators found no indication of a frantic attempt to save her. There was no immediate rush to get her to the hospital, no desperate call for help.

Instead, according to the prosecution’s theory, Caleb had time. He had time to look around the apartment. He had time to consider what had happened, and he had time to decide what story he was going to tell. By this point, authorities were no longer looking at the grieving boyfriend who had lost his family.

So, Caleb was charged with firstdegree aggravated assault, which was the charge prosecutors believed they could prove with the evidence available. But the case never went to trial. In April 2026, Caleb was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the case involving Sheila.

And during sentencing, the women who had once been afraid to publicly speak finally had the opportunity to confront him. One after another, they delivered victim impact statements and described what they said they had endured during their relationships with him. Sheila’s family also had the chance to speak.
