He Forced His Wife and Daughter to Watch | True Crime Documentary

She believed that love could change a person. Despite the jealousy, the threats, and the constant control, Michaela Hall kept giving him one more chance. She dreamed of having a happy family. But one night, desperate screams shattered the silence of an ordinary home. Within minutes, police arrived at the scene and found a sight they would never forget.

And the man they were searching for had already disappeared into the darkness, taking a small child with him. What happened that night? And why did all the warning signs turn out to be only the beginning? This is the story of Michaela Hall. Friends, let me interrupt for just a minute. I’m really curious where my audience is watching from, so I’d love for you to tell me what city you’re watching this video from and what time it is where you are.

Thanks for watching, leave it in the comments, and I’ll continue. Michaela Hall was born on February 7th, 1983 to her mother, Julie. Michaela was an only child, and she and her mother were inseparable. As a single mother, Julie worked tirelessly to give Michaela the best possible start in life, and they spent nearly all their time together.

Michaela grew up to be a happy, confident young woman with a close circle of friends she loved spending time with. Later, she married a local man from Oxford, but the marriage eventually fell apart, and the couple separated. It was an incredibly difficult time for Michaela as she struggled to come to terms with the end of the relationship.

One of Michaela and Julie’s favorite things to do together was travel to Turkey. During one of those trips, Julie met a man named Mehmet Sahin. Mehmet said he knew the moment he met her that she was the woman for him. After they fell in love, the couple married in 2002, and Mehmet moved to the UK to live in Oxford with his wife and step-daughter.

In 2007, Michaela traveled to Turkey again. There, she met a waiter working at a resort hotel named Ensar Gol. The two quickly began a relationship and she fell in love with him. Before long, she returned to Turkey to see him again. A few weeks after returning to the UK, Michaela discovered she was pregnant.

She was determined to make the relationship work and couldn’t wait for the birth of her child. The couple maintained a long-distance relationship and every few months Michaela flew to Turkey to see Ensar. In 2008, they welcomed their first child, a daughter. Just a few weeks after giving birth, she learned she was pregnant again and the following year the couple had a son.

Motherhood meant everything to Michaela. One of her friends described her son and daughter as her right hand and left hand. Julie adored her grandchildren as well and hardly ever took her eyes off them. After the children were born, Ensar’s true nature began to emerge. He became extremely controlling and possessive.

Whenever Michaela was in Turkey, he told her where she could and couldn’t go and what she could and couldn’t do. Even after she returned to the UK, he continued trying to control her despite still being in Turkey. Michaela wanted her children to have a father in their lives and she hoped he would move to the UK so they could finally be together and try to repair their relationship.

As a working mother with two young children, Michaela lived a busy life and constantly struggled financially. Even so, she was determined to spend large amounts of money on flights to Turkey to see Ensar. Sometimes she brought the children with her and other times she left them in Julie’s care because Ensar didn’t like sharing Michaela’s attention with the kids.

He took advantage of her kindness and her financial situation became significantly worse because of it. She bought him gifts in the UK and shipped them to Turkey. According to people who knew the couple, while he was still living in Turkey, his relationship with Michaela meant very little to him. He continued having sexual relationships with other women.

The violence in their relationship escalated when Michaela traveled to Turkey with the children to see him. Julie went with them and stayed at the hotel caring for her grandchildren. Michaela and Ensar returned early one morning and an argument broke out between them in the kitchen. When he started raising his voice, Michaela told him to calm down because the children were asleep and she didn’t want him to wake up.

In response, Ensar raised his fist and swung at her. Julie stepped between them to stop him, but he shoved her aside and struck Michaela. Later, Julie told friends that when she looked into his eyes, she felt as though he wanted to kill her. She had been uneasy around him for a long time and this incident only deepened her hatred of him.

Despite everything, Michaela continued to hope that once he left Turkey and moved to the UK to live with her and the children, their relationship would improve. Instead, the problems only grew worse. Ensar had avoided mandatory military service in Turkey and he wasn’t allowed to move to the UK until he completed it. His visa had been suspended.

Michaela spent a great deal of money trying to help him find different ways around the problem. Eventually, he agreed to complete his military service when it became clear it was the only way to obtain a visa, but that created new problems. He blamed Michaela for having to serve in the military even though she had absolutely no control over the situation.

In December 2010, while serving in the military, he suddenly ended their relationship without warning and for no apparent reason. Michaela was devastated. She began talking to her ex in Turkey and decided to travel there to see him. But later she said it had been a mistake and that she should have tried to repair her relationship with Ensar instead of giving up on it.

When she returned to the UK, she frantically asked her friends to help erase every trace of her conversations with her ex because she knew that if Ensar found out, he might explode with rage. A few days later, Michaela received a phone call. It was Ensar. Acting as though nothing had happened. They agreed to give their relationship another chance.

Her friends urged her to think carefully and not go back to him, but she decided to try again. In March 2011, she traveled to Turkey and the couple got married. Julie refused to go. Michaela didn’t tell her friends about the wedding either. Some only found out through Facebook after Julie posted a congratulatory message for the newlyweds.

Michaela returned to Britain and began arranging a visa for her new husband, but before long he learned that she had traveled to Turkey to see her ex and he became furious. He grew even more verbally abusive during their conversations. He frequently reduced her to tears and her friends heard the abuse themselves, telling her that his behavior wasn’t normal and that he had no right to treat her that way.

He constantly flooded her phone with calls even in the middle of the night. On one occasion, he called her 26 times. By August 2011, it had driven her into a deep depression and according to a friend, she had even begun thinking about suicide. Her friend advised her to simply turn off her phone. The next day, Michaela learned that his visa had been approved and sent to him.

Then, the following day, Ensar Gul boarded a plane to the UK and left Turkey. He moved in with Michaela and their children at Julie and Mehmet’s home in Thame, Oxfordshire. The tension quickly began to rise. Julie’s hatred of Ensar was mutual, and he in turn resented how close she was to her daughter.

Other people in Michaela’s life also witnessed his deeply controlling and abusive behavior. His resentment toward Julie living in her home, and his desire for revenge after learning Michaela had seen her ex following the breakup he himself had initiated without warning, all began to boil inside him. It wasn’t a sudden outburst.

It built gradually, becoming an inner pressure that grew stronger with each passing day. His thoughts became increasingly consumed by resentment, jealousy, and control, blending into a dangerous mix. During a conversation with Mehmet, Ensar said he wanted to kill Michaela. The words were direct and unmistakable, but Mehmet assumed it was nothing more than something said in anger.

The kind of thing people sometimes say without meaning it. At the time, it seemed like an emotional exaggeration rather than a real threat that needed to be taken literally. One morning, Michaela called a friend. She was terrified. The fear in her voice was impossible to hide. She said Ensar had told her that if she came home, he would cut off her head.

It wasn’t just another argument or an empty threat. It sounded like a direct and brutal promise that left her with a deep sense of danger. Just 2 weeks after his arrival in England, a ticket was purchased for him to return permanently to Turkey. It seemed like an attempt to put an end to a situation that had become increasingly tense.

Michaela was heartbroken. Despite everything, she still wanted to save the relationship and begged him to give them one last chance to make it work. Her words were filled with hope that despite everything had not yet disappeared. On the way to the airport, he decided not to board the flight and returned to the family home instead.

It was a sudden and unexpected decision as though he had changed his mind at the very last moment. His return meant the tension hadn’t disappeared. It had only returned with him becoming even more dangerous. On September 2nd, he spent the night with a woman he had met at a local bar, once again showing complete indifference toward his wife and their marriage.

It didn’t appear to be a random act, but rather a deliberate choice that highlighted his emotional detachment and unwillingness to honor any commitment. His behavior during those days increasingly revealed the gap between his words and his actions. The following day, September 3rd, Ensar met the same woman again.

It wasn’t an isolated meeting. It repeated the previous day’s pattern, reinforcing the same behavior. He also drank a significant amount of alcohol, adding even more chaos to his state of mind, and missed his shift at the local Prezzo restaurant. It was yet another sign that he had completely abandoned his responsibilities and his normal routine.

Afterward, he went to the takeout restaurant where Memet worked at approximately 1:15 in the morning on September 4th. It was late at night when the town had already grown quiet and any visitor stood out. Memet assumed it was simply alcohol-fueled talk. Nothing about his words seemed especially unusual or dangerous at the time. They sounded like careless comments without any real meaning.

>> [music] >> No one could have imagined something far more serious was behind them. At 2:10 in the morning, Ensar Gul returned to Ayrton Court. It was the middle of the night when most people were asleep and the house seemed quiet and peaceful. Nothing from the outside suggested that everything was about to change within minutes.

Julie and her friend Casey were watching television in the living room. The atmosphere was completely ordinary, the familiar calm of a late evening. Upstairs, Mikaela was asleep in one bedroom with her daughter, while their son slept in the room next door. The house was silent except for the sound of the television. Ensar walked into the kitchen, took a knife from a drawer, and then went upstairs.

His actions were deliberate and methodical, without hesitation. Every step brought him closer to what was about to happen. He entered the bedroom where his wife and daughter were sleeping. It was supposed to be the safest place in the house, but instead it became the scene of unimaginable violence. There, he launched a horrific attack, stabbing Mikaela over and over again.

It happened suddenly, without warning in the silence of the night, which instantly gave way to chaos and screams. Julie and Casey rushed upstairs to find out what had happened. Their reaction was immediate. They heard the commotion and ran to help without hesitation. When Julie entered the bedroom, she saw Ensar straddling Mikaela and stabbing her in the neck.

The scene was horrifying and brutal. As Julie tried to pull him away from her daughter, she slipped and fell to the floor, losing her balance at the worst possible moment. Ensar then turned on her and began stabbing her just as relentlessly. Casey was also stabbed four times, with one of the wounds passing just millimeters from her pulmonary vein.

It was a critically dangerous injury that miraculously was not fatal. Casey managed to escape from the house and run for help, but Julie couldn’t. As she tried to reach the front door, she collapsed at the bottom of the stairs. She had come within just a few steps of safety, but because of the catastrophic loss of blood, she could go no farther.

Her strength simply gave out in that critical moment. Ensar Gall took their 3-year-old daughter and disappeared into the night. It was a sudden and terrifying disappearance. He left behind a crime scene and people desperately in need of help. The little girl remained with him, not understanding what was happening, but sensing the fear and tension of that night.

Hearing the screams, a concerned neighbor immediately called the police. It was one of those emergency calls where panic and urgency could be heard in every word. Soon, emergency responders arrived and the silence of the night was replaced by the sound of sirens and the frantic efforts of first responders. Casey was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital where she eventually recovered.

Her condition was critical, but she survived a rare exception in this tragic story. Julie was found curled up in the fetal position just inches from the front door. She had been so close to getting out, but never managed to take that final step. Michaela was found in the bedroom, another place that had become part of the horrific scene.

It was from that moment that the massive manhunt for Ensar Gol began. Surveillance cameras captured him walking through the streets carrying his young daughter in his arms. His movements appeared calm, almost routine, making an even sharper contrast with what had happened just moments earlier. The knife he had used in the killings was still with him and his clothes were splattered with blood, leaving no doubt about the events of that night.

Then he set his daughter down and told Mehmet to take care of her. It was a brief, abrupt moment with no warmth or concern, just a blunt instruction given in the aftermath of events that had already spiraled out of control. The child found herself in the middle of a situation she couldn’t possibly understand, though she could already sense the fear and chaos surrounding her.

Mehmet did everything he could to comfort the frightened and traumatized little girl while calling 999. His voice was likely shaking, but he tried to remain calm, clearly relaying information without losing control. At the same time, he did his best to reassure the child, talking to her and keeping her close, even as he struggled with the overwhelming shock and stress himself.

Those were precious seconds in which he had to act quickly despite the fear and disbelief. As he wandered through the town, Ensar called his family in Turkey. It was yet another disturbing contrast between what had already happened and the way he behaved afterward. His movements through the streets seemed aimless, yet he stayed in contact with his relatives, as though trying to talk about something ordinary or familiar.

During those moments, he wasn’t hiding or rushing. He simply walked through town making phone calls as if the events of that night hadn’t left him with any sense of urgency or panic. Those calls add another layer to understanding his behavior, cold, detached, and almost impossible for those reconstructing the case to comprehend.

Surveillance footage also shows a man approaching him to ask for a lighter. It appears to be an ordinary, everyday interaction that should have lasted only a few seconds, but everything changes in an instant. The moment the man notices that Ensar is holding a knife, he immediately backs away on instinct.

His reaction is quick and abrupt as though he instantly realizes the danger standing before him. Security cameras also captured the moment Ansar Gul was arrested by two police officers. It happened quickly, but the tension was visible in every movement. The officers approached cautiously, carefully controlling the situation, fully aware of who they were dealing with.

In that moment, everything depended on seconds and precise decisions. The senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Joe Kidman, later praised the officers who arrested him, noting that they were unarmed and showed tremendous courage and composure. According to him, it was an extremely high-risk situation where every decision mattered, and it was their calm professionalism that allowed them to take the suspect into custody without causing even greater tragedy.

It was a job that required not only skill but remarkable inner strength. During police interviews, he complained about the blood on his clothing, focusing on that as though it were the biggest issue. His words sounded detached, almost casual, with no indication that he grasped the magnitude of what had happened.

He showed virtually no remorse for his actions and displayed none of the emotions anyone would expect after such horrific events. That emotional coldness only reinforced the overall impression of his behavior. After the autopsies of Julie and Michaela, it was determined that most of the stab wounds were concentrated on their chests and necks’ vital areas, where the injuries caused massive, rapid blood loss.

The findings left no doubt about the nature of the attack. The wounds had been inflicted deliberately with extraordinary brutality, and each one carried the potential to be fatal. Julie suffered more than 50 stab wounds, while Michaela suffered more than 40. Those numbers sound like dry statistics, but they represent a level of violence that is difficult to comprehend.

The sheer number of wounds went far beyond anything that could be explained as an impulsive act, pointing instead to the prolonged and relentless nature of the attack. All of this happened in front of their 3-year-old daughter, who became the silent witness to something no child should ever see. At the same time, their 2-year-old son was in the next room, separated from the violence by nothing more than a wall.

The realization of that makes the tragedy of that night even more devastating. Ensar Gul was charged with the murders of his wife and mother-in-law, as well as the attempted murder of Casey. The charges were clear and unequivocal, reflecting the full gravity of his actions. He was scheduled to appear before Oxford Magistrates Court that same Tuesday, where the case would officially move forward through the justice system.

At his first court appearance, he pleaded not guilty to every charge. The statement came despite the growing body of evidence and the circumstances that were steadily forming a clear and deeply disturbing picture of what had happened. In May 2012, the trial of Ensar Gul began. The atmosphere inside the courtroom was tense even before the proceedings started.

Everyone understood that painful testimony and heartbreaking details lay ahead. For the family and loved ones, this wasn’t just a trial, it meant reliving the worst night of their lives. His behavior shocked everyone. He was photographed entering the courthouse smiling at photographers. It wasn’t a nervous smile or an attempt to hide fear, it appeared confident and unnaturally relaxed.

He laughed and smiled while sitting in the defendant’s seat, showing no remorse or regret for taking the lives of two people and destroying the lives of so many others. His behavior stood in stark contrast to the emotions of those sitting in the courtroom. He claimed he had been trapped in the marriage and that he didn’t love Michaela, but his actions suggested otherwise.

The evidence showed that he had consciously chosen to keep Michaela in his life, maintaining a relationship that he himself described as unbearable. That indicated he was benefiting from it in some way, and his actions were not those of a man with no choice. When it came time to testify about the events of the night of September 4th, he told the court that Julie had attacked him first and that he had acted in self-defense.

His account sounded confident, but something about it felt unnatural. At one point, he even took a pen from his interpreter and made a stabbing motion, apparently trying to demonstrate his version of events. The judge immediately intervened and ordered him to return the pen, stopping the disturbing gesture that only heightened the tension in the courtroom.

He also claimed he had been unhappy in the marriage and had been forced to marry Michaela. His words sounded like an attempt to justify his actions rather than accept responsibility. There was no remorse, only an effort to shift the blame. But, the claim of self-defense could not withstand scrutiny.

The number of stab wounds suffered by Michaela and Julie far exceeded anything that could reasonably be considered self-defense. Their injuries pointed not to protection, but to deliberate and brutal violence that continued well beyond any conceivable response to a threat. The police investigation and the prosecution completely dismantled his version of events.

The crime scene, blood spatter analysis, and damage to the furniture told an entirely different story. Taken together, every piece of evidence pointed to one conclusion. He attacked Michaela and Julie, not the other way around. Every fact systematically undermined his claims. The families and loved ones of Michaela and Julie sat in the courtroom in tears as surveillance footage was played.

The video showed him calmly walking through town with a knife in his hand without any sign of urgency as though nothing had happened. For them, those weren’t simply recordings. They were the final moments before everything changed forever. Prosecutor Daffaty Enoch told the court that the marriage had been unhappy and that the situation had been made worse because Ensar missed Turkey.

He acknowledged those circumstances but made one thing absolutely clear. None of them could excuse or explain his actions. He described what happened as a senseless slaughter born of calculated and merciless violence. His words served as the prosecution’s unmistakable conclusion. Richard Rock of South Central Ambulance Service also testified.

He said he would never forget the look in Michaela’s eyes, a look filled with pain and suffering. According to him, that expression would stay with him for the rest of his life as a permanent reminder of what he witnessed that night. Casey also testified explaining that she and Julie rushed upstairs after hearing the commotion.

She spoke quietly but every word carried weight. She said that giving evidence in court had been the hardest thing she had ever endured, even harder than the memory she had tried so desperately to forget. On May 31st, 2012, the jury returned its verdict. Ensar Gall was found guilty of the attempted murder of Casey as well as the murders of Julie and Michaela.

The verdict marked the culmination of every hearing, every piece of evidence, and every testimony presented throughout the trial. He was sentenced to life in prison, 36 years for each murder and 12 years for the attempted murder, with all sentences to be served concurrently. The numbers were delivered calmly and without emotion, but behind them lay shattered lives and irreversible loss.

As the sentence was read, Ensarr nodded and smiled. For the loved ones left behind, no sentence could ever feel sufficient. No number of years behind bars, no words spoken by the judge could ever compare to what had been taken from them. The emptiness left by that night could never be measured or calculated.

It was a loss beyond numbers, beyond words, beyond anything a courtroom could repair. Memet said, “I met Julie when I was 23 years old, and I was incredibly fortunate to spend 12 years with the one true love of my life. I know she loved me just as deeply as I loved her.” His words were composed, but beneath that composure was a profound, almost unbearable grief.

Every sentence seemed to come with tremendous effort, as though he were reliving everything that had been destroyed. It wasn’t simply a statement, it was the memory of a life that could never be restored. He also said he was grateful that the jury had not believed what was said about Julie during the trial or accepted the version of her that the defense had tried to present by claiming she had somehow provoked the events.

That mattered deeply to him. It was important that the truth about her remain untarnished and that her name was never used as part of someone else’s excuse. After the verdict, Detective Inspector Joe Kidman said, “In trying to avoid responsibility for his crimes, Ensarr Gall attempted to smear the character of the two women he murdered.

That only added to the terrible suffering of the family who attended court every day and listened to all the evidence.” His words were clear and measured, serving as a final summary of everything that had happened. It wasn’t an emotional speech. It was a statement of fact backed by broken lives. Despite their pain, they showed tremendous dignity.

It was a short sentence, but it carried far more than a simple observation. It reflected the silence inside the courtroom, the strain of every day of testimony, and the strength of the people who had been forced to face the man who destroyed their world. The scale of the devastation caused on the night of September 4th is difficult to comprehend.

It wasn’t only about the events of a single night. It was a ripple effect whose consequences reached far beyond it. Broken lives, shattered families, and futures forever divided into before and after. For those left behind, the pain is beyond words. It doesn’t disappear with time. It doesn’t fade or weaken enough to be ignored. It becomes part of every day, every thought, and every memory.
