The Disappearance of Liam Toman – An Interview with Chris and Lara Toman
We are joined once again by my co-host and dear friend, Shawn Cahill, as we dive deep into our third consecutive week covering one of the most perplexing missing persons cases in recent memory.
Today, we are looking at the heartbreaking disappearance of twenty-three-year-old Liam Toman, who vanished from the winter resort town of Mont Tremblant in Canada back in February of 2025.
If you are just tuning in for the first time, I strongly encourage you to go back and listen to our comprehensive case breakdown, as well as our previous interview with Liam’s mother, Kathleen.
Today’s conversation is entirely different and profoundly moving, because we are sitting down with Liam’s father, Chris, and his stepmom, Lara, who prefer to call her his “bonus mom.”
Chris and Lara open up their basement—a place where Liam spent countless hours listening to music and spinning records—to share an intimate, heartbreaking, and deeply insightful perspective on the young man they loved so dearly.
Chris and Lara, thank you both so much for joining us today and taking the time to share your story during such an unimaginably difficult chapter of your lives.
Thank you for having us, and we truly appreciate all the media awareness and support we have been receiving from people all over.
To help our listeners who might be discovering this case right now, why don’t you start by introducing yourselves and explaining your relationship to Liam?
My name is Chris Toman, and I am Liam’s father, and our wonderful son disappeared on February second, 2025, while he was away on a ski trip with friends.
And I am Lara Toman, Liam’s stepmom, though the kids always affectionately referred to me as their bonus mom ever since they were little.
You both were so close to Liam, and anyone who listens to or watches this interview will immediately sense that you weren’t just parents, but genuine friends and confidants to him.
We really were, because our blended family has been together for thirteen years, and we built our entire lives around being close-knit and open with one another.
Liam was just an incredible human being with a heart of gold, a bright mind, and a future full of endless possibilities.
He graduated from Niagara College in electronics engineering in 2024, and he was so proud of the car he saved up for through hard work and dedication.
He loved working outdoors, spending time up near his mom’s cottage area where a friend helped him secure a wonderful maintenance job cutting grass and fixing things around resort properties.
He was a true outdoorsman at heart, just like he was when he worked at Treetop Trekking doing zip-lining and spending every spare moment enjoying nature.
He also shared a deep passion for golf, playing with us and his brother whenever he had the chance to drive down on the weekend to visit his core friends in Whitby.
This basement where we are sitting right now is filled with memories of him listening to his eclectic mix of music, blasting rap tracks in the shower, and driving his sister crazy in the best possible way.
This ski trip to Mont Tremblant was supposed to be a celebratory milestone, a rite of passage marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of a serious professional career in his field.
It breaks our hearts because he had so much planned for his future once he returned from that trip, and now we are left wondering how a single night changed everything.
We have been together as a blended family for over a decade, and from the very first day Chris and I started dating, family has always been our absolute priority.
I remember meeting Liam for the very first time when I walked up to him outside and handed him a football while wearing a dress and heels.
I threw it so far, and Liam caught it, walked right up to his dad, and whispered that he really liked me because I could actually throw a football.
He was always outside riding his bike or hanging around the neighborhood, and we instantly formed a bond that only grew stronger through football leagues, hockey games, and family vacations.
He loved watching UFC fights and hockey games in this very basement, shouting at the television with his stepbrother Ryan, filling the house with so much joy and infectious laughter.
He even had this hilarious habit of sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to cook elaborate meals, banging pots and pans thinking we couldn’t hear him.
When you lose a child who brought that much light into the world, the silence left behind is deafening, and that is why we refuse to stop searching for answers.
When we first arrived in Mont Tremblant after getting that terrifying phone call at three in the morning, our minds naturally raced through every possible scenario.
We initially wondered if he had succumbed to the freezing elements, perhaps getting disoriented in the freezing Canadian winter after leaving the bar.
But as days turned into weeks and investigators combed through the evidence, we realized that theory simply did not align with the facts or with Liam’s character.
Liam was inherently risk-averse, completely non-confrontational, and stood at five feet nine inches and about one hundred thirty-two pounds.
He hated roller coasters, backed down from overly high water slides, and had never been in a physical fight in his entire life.
If someone had confronted him or tried to rob him, he would have simply handed over whatever he had without a second thought to de-escalate the situation.
When we looked at the surveillance footage provided by the police, we saw him walking with absolute purpose, completely coordinated, not stumbling around like someone incapacitated by alcohol.
He had his phone in his hand, his wallet with his hotel access card safely stored inside, and he walked right past his hotel instead of going inside.
That tells us beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was heading somewhere specific, likely meeting someone he had arranged to see or someone who had given him instructions earlier that evening.
We believe someone set him up or lured him away under false pretenses, and that is a terrifying realization for any parent to process.
Let us take a step back and look at the timeline of that Saturday night, February second, 2025, when Liam and his friends went out to enjoy the vibrant nightlife of Mont Tremblant.
The resort town is famous for its lively après-ski culture, where popular establishments like Le Petit Caribou remain packed with tourists and locals until three in the morning.
Liam and his friends headed out around midnight after another friend had already gone back to their accommodation to sleep early.
Inside Le Petit Caribou, the atmosphere was electric, with people dancing on the bar, loud music playing, and crowds mingling in the packed venue.
At some point during the festivities, Liam and his friend Kyle got separated in the dense crowd, which happens easily in a bustling resort bar.
Surveillance footage and witness accounts showed Liam interacting with people at the bar, and at one point, another patron warned him away from a group of women, saying they were spoken for.
Liam, true to his gentle nature, simply smiled, said everything was cool, and backed off without a hint of aggression.
However, there is footage of him sitting quietly at the bar later on, looking around as if he were deliberately killing time before going somewhere else.
Around three in the morning, as the lights came up and the bartenders began cleaning glasses, Liam made a harmless joke about grabbing a glass.
The bartender reacted with unexpected over-aggression, and a bouncer immediately escorted him out of the establishment into the freezing night air.
Even after being pushed out into the cold, Liam was seen fist-pumping, smiling, and assuring everyone that everything was completely fine.
He stood outside interacting briefly with a few people before walking away down the street with his phone out, actively texting.
Crucially, he accidentally sent a message to Chris on Instagram instead of his friend Kyle at three-sixteen in the morning, writing a cryptic note asking someone to meet him outside.
When he realized the mistake, he attempted to call Kyle, but those digital footprints align perfectly with the security camera timestamps tracking his final known movements.
The most frustrating part of this entire nightmare has been discovering the significant deficiencies in the security infrastructure around Mont Tremblant.
While the local residents and police have been supportive, the lack of comprehensive camera coverage, proper angles, and adequate video storage left massive blind spots.
If there had been just a few more cameras pointing down those side streets or better lighting in the surrounding areas, investigators would have had a clear picture of where Liam went.
Instead, we are left piecing together fragments of video footage, bank statements, and text messages, trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces.
People often ask us whether Liam was hiding any dark secrets, battling depression, or living a double life that we knew nothing about as parents.
We have asked ourselves those exact same questions, digging through his social media accounts, reviewing every text message, and talking extensively to his friends and siblings.
The honest truth is that Liam was in a very happy, stable place in his life, looking forward to starting his career after completing his college education.
He suffered from hereditary migraines, and just before leaving for the trip, he had to cancel an indoor golf simulator outing with us because he was recovering from a severe banger.
We had an open, honest relationship with all of our children, encouraging them to bring their friends over and talk to us openly rather than sneaking behind our backs.
His stepbrother Ryan, his sister Kate, and his close longtime friend Shireen all confirmed that he had no hidden troubles, no enemies, and no secret worries weighing on him.
If anything was wrong, Liam was the kind of person who would talk through it with his family or friends, because he valued those connections above everything else.
That is why the theory that he simply wandered off into the woods to freeze to death makes zero sense to anyone who actually knew him.
He was intelligent, cautious, physically capable of using his phone, and surrounded by open vestibules and buildings where he could easily have sought shelter if he was cold.
Instead, he walked past his hotel with steady, determined strides because he believed he was meeting someone who was waiting for him.
Whether that meeting was arranged inside the bar or sparked by a chance conversation on the street remains the central mystery that haunts us every single day.
We are not going to stop advocating for Liam, and we will continue pushing for better safety protocols, improved surveillance technology, and greater accountability in resort towns like Tremblant.
No family should ever have to experience the agonizing uncertainty of waking up to a phone call in the middle of the night telling them their child has vanished into thin air.
Liam had a brilliant future ahead of him, a loving family that adored him, and so many dreams left unfulfilled, and his story deserves to be heard by the world.
We want to thank everyone who has watched these segments, shared his missing poster, and kept Liam’s memory alive while investigators continue their work.
If anyone out there has even the smallest piece of information about what happened outside Le Petit Caribou on that February night, please come forward and help us bring Liam home.
