The Most Terrifying Things Caught on Camera in Churches
Mysterious moments caught inside a church transform a sacred sanctuary into the setting of unexplained phenomena. >> [screaming] >> From shadowy figures playing pianos >> Oh my god. Oh, >> to statues of Jesus moving in the middle of the night, these are some of the most terrifying things ever caught on camera inside churches.
Number 20, the church bride. For this explorer, a visit to the abandoned church seemed like the perfect activity to do at night. What he didn’t expect was to be met by an unwanted guest. Sitting in the chapel out in the open was a bride ghost in a plain white dress waiting quietly in the silence of the church.
Although she was draped in a veil, her unsettling stare at the camera was enough to send this young lad running with a shrilling scream. Number 19, the alien in the doorway. A man had recorded himself on the street when his audience pointed out something weird in the film, a creepy shadow in the middle of the day. He went home, looked a bit closer at the footage, and was surprised to find a lanky dusty figure walking briskly in the doorway.
This thin tall man looked more like the mystical skin walker than a janitor walking through the corridor. On top of that, it is almost as if he appeared out of thin air, and just like that, vanished back into the darkness. What do you think it is? Number 18, the Church of Bones. While many churches hide their haunted demons, this one has put on a display of its horrors for everyone to watch.
Called the Sedlec Ossuary, this church holds the bones of 40,000 people who wanted to be buried in the holy land. As morbid as it sounds, it isn’t as creepy as how these bones are arranged around the church. From being put on display as art to a sea of screaming skeletons thrown in the cellar, from bones being hung in the form of a chandelier to the ceiling decorated with a line of skulls, this church reeks of a story untold.
Number 17, the evil statue. Do you see this massive statue pushed against the wall? This isn’t an ordinary statue. Standing at 66 ft tall and 23 ft wide, it was built by an Italian painter and sculptor to represent the human race under the threat of nuclear war. On the outside, it looks as if Jesus is rising from the ashes of this war accompanied by angelic figures in hopes of saving humanity.
But, that’s only part of the story. Apparently, many people believe that it depicts the spawn of evil on Earth with the devil arising from hell with his demons next to him. Adding more to that story, people think that the devil is an evil deity called Baphomet, a famous goat-headed figure known to be involved in occult and witchcraft. What’s interesting is that if you look closely at the statue, you’d find that if the right and left sides are mirrored, you can see the Baphomet in the statue’s head.
Number 16, burning the demon statue. This Houston crowd found a demonic statue lurking in the ceiling of their local church. Next thing you know, they are bringing it down and setting it ablaze on the church grounds. They have no clue how this statue got high up on the walls, but they didn’t want its creepy haunted face to dishonor the chapel.
So, the furious crowd broke the statue into pieces and let its unholy spirit out in the air. Do you think it was an evil statue or did someone pull off a mean prank? Number 15, peekaboo. A congregation was gathered in the chapel when a young man recorded something unsettling. As he zoomed in, he saw the statue of Jesus staring back at him.
Pretty normal, right? Well, next thing you know, the eyes that were wide open were shut closed the very next second, almost as if someone was inside. Imagine playing hide-and-seek in a a with the statue of Jesus. Number 14, the moving statue. On the Good Friday mass, people gathered to hear the sermon by the priest. Suddenly, a man recorded terrifying footage.
The 300-year-old Christ crucified on the cross moved its head. If you look closely, you can see his head bobbing downwards as if he is nodding in agreement. What’s shocking is that the statue is usually in a glass coffin. It was taken out specially for the Good Friday sermon. Number 13, ghost playing the piano. Two friends on a mission to explore a church walked into a quiet corridor when they heard an eerie voice.
A piano is playing in the middle of the night in a seemingly abandoned church. They knew they had walked into trouble and the only way out was through the chapel. The boys gathered some courage and dashed through the ramp, lighting up the hallway when they saw the scene that would give them night terrors. A humped black figure unbothered by the flashlight smoothly played the piano.
The boys screamed in horror as they marched outside with the tunes still playing in the background. Then suddenly, nothing. The tunes were gone and they were surrounded by silence. They looked up and saw the same ghost dressed in black and white slipping into the shadows. The sight of this ghost is not leaving them tonight.
Talk about a scene straight from a horror movie. Number 12, the creepy super girl. In the Vatican archives, there are a lot of secrets that remain buried, but this one slipped away and caused a buzz on the internet. The disturbing footage shows a woman climbing up the church wall holding another woman by the tuft of her hair as she dangles in midair.
Super girl can be seen scaling the high-towered wall as if walking on the street. What’s crazy is that she is doing it with one hand. There aren’t even good bricks there for support. As this video went viral, many people claimed it was a human with superpowers, but others believed it was something far more disturbing, a demonic possession.
What do you think? Number 11, the Church of Sacrifices. A man with a camera walked into an abandoned church only to be astounded by what he found inside. Benches strewn, the confessional broken, and the most creepy finding of all, the crooked cross on the wall. All while the man was discovering these small, yet disturbing details around the church, he could hear a faint voice coming from inside the four walls.
But, nothing was as unsettling as these massive stains on the floor. Apparently, the church was known to be the hub of giving sacrifices by the worshipers. From the red stains splashed on the floor to the altar a few feet away from the crooked cross, it was only further evidence that someone was doing something horrible inside this church.
Number 10, the shaking statue. It is one thing to see a statue moving. What happens when it starts shaking like that? There’s no one near 6 ft of that statue, and yet the head can clearly be seen bobbing against the cross in the middle of the night. What do you think it is? Number nine, glowing eyes in the window.
This group was recording their next big video when they saw something in the window. A pair of bright yellow eyes peeked from the square only for a mere few seconds until they faded back into the darkness. The eyes do not resemble those of a ghost or a spirit. It looked as if a small head was peaking from the corner to see what was going on inside the church walls, but its eyes were deeply unsettling, almost as if it were an alien.
Number eight, the shadow man. This footage is from the Vatican church where everyone is often a fan of old buildings. But, a guy with a camera recorded something else in his video. A tall, lanky, black figure looking apparently disappointed stared down from the high-rise building. He is quietly standing on the edge of the window, looking as as he is planning to jump.
You can’t see any facial features in this bright sunlight and the figure looks almost transparent, but what you can tell is that the shadow man is there, bright and clear. Do you think it is a spirit? Number seven, the levitating statue. In the 1999 Holy Mass in Lourdes, France, a shocking event occurred that left people frightened.
As the men put the statue down on the table, you can see it rise up just for a few seconds before going down. Interestingly, it happened only when the man had his hands on the statue. The fact that this was witnessed by thousands on live TV is enough to send shivers down your spine. Number six, Pope doing exorcism. The hauntings don’t always happen inside the church.
Sometimes there are events around the priests and Popes that leave you terrified. Look at this clip of the Pope putting his hands firmly on the head of a disabled boy. As soon as the hands touch his head, he lets out an inaudible but visible gasp on live TV. The boy does not seem to be possessed, which leaves even more questions and loopholes behind.
What was the Pope even doing? And why did the boy react that way? Number five, the strange sighting. A group of people was out to find a ghost in the church. Little did they know that they would find something far worse. Carrying a camera, this guy was taking photographs left and right hoping to catch something live. And he did a few seconds later.
What appeared to be a simple picture on the outside showed a shadowy figure lurking in the corner once he was done reviewing. The creepy bit was that the figure looked almost non-human with strange hollow eyes. Number four, shadow on the walls. A few seconds into the video, you’ll see why this seemingly normal footage turned downright unsettling.
An eerie shadow walks the walls and then vanishes into thin air. That’s not something you see every day. Number three, the creepy watchman. An abandoned church is rarely a good visiting site and this footage is a proof of it. A man walked in with a camera, completely unaware of the small humming sound in the hallways.
As soon as he started looking at the pictures, he heard a loud noise and turned around only to find a figure sitting quietly on one of the benches. He dropped his brave act and dashed outside the door only to find the same white figure watching him through the windows. What’s frightening is how fast the disturbing watchman walked towards the window staring eerily calmly from the windowpane.
Number two. Angels in church. During a church mass, people witnessed a strange sighting. Light in the shape of an angel lit up the wall on the right of the church and faded almost as rapidly as it came. Even if it was a reflection, isn’t it creepy how the light formed to look like an angelic figure? Number one. The weeping statue.
The crowd in Hobbs witnessed something eerie in the four walls of their church. The statue of the Virgin Mary was spotted shedding tears, weeping only momentarily before going back to its original condition. The same event happened multiple times, reported by a large group of people on separate occasions.
